Help me grow stuff!
Hello, just found out about this place...I am a frustrated gardener...frustrated because I am SO BAD at getting houseplants to stay alive....I gave up after I killed a "creeping Charlie"....was told they were impossible to kill....not so much, I found out.
I can't even keep plastic houseplants alive...I'm that bad! However, I see a lot of articles on here to look through...I really love the effect of having greenery in the home, and would like to be able to do it right. BTW....I'm known as scarygirl on another forum..... |

RE: Help me grow stuff!
blackthumb,
What kind of plants did you buy? I am getting ready to give a few plants away to my co-workers. They want a mothers-in-law tongue plant so I will be trying to dwindle down my collection. It makes me happy that I can get plants in a person’s home to bless their lives. Have a great weekend and be safe. Have a Great Day, Granna |

RE: Help me grow stuff!
Hi Granna!
I ended up buying a snake plant, actually! I have become familiar with how to care for them on this site as a matter of fact. Just checked in to say hello...hope you all are keeping safe! We got some VERY cold weather this weekend..but it seems to be warming up a bit now...which means this stuff is going to melt into a big bunch of slush! :-( |

RE: Help me grow stuff!
Blackthumb,
Snake plants are easy to maintain. They need watering once a month or so in the cold weather and in the warmer months well when you lift the pot and it feels light it is time to water. I water them in the kitchen sink with the stopper in it I will pour water over the soil about 2 times and let them sit in the water for a while until I feel like the root ball is well watered. Remember to always use warm water when watering the lil’ darlings they like that (would you like to eat warm soup or cold soup? I like warm soup. Hehehe!) I just felt compelled to share this with you. PS: This is how I water all of my plants. I am really proud of you for getting a good plant they grow kinda slow so be patience. Keep me posted on the progress you are making. Have a Great Day, Granna |

RE: Help me grow stuff!
So far so good! It is in my living room, and I have only watered it once..with the warm water you suggested! At least it hasn't died yet, lol. I do know they are very easy to maintain with just remembering a few small details.
Now about talking to plants..I know there is probably a technical explanation for why plants seem to respond when they are talked to..but doesn't it make sense really? They are living things..and all living things respond to care and love. |

RE: Help me grow stuff!
Blackthumb,
When you talk to a plant you give off carbon dioxide and that is what plants take out of the air to produce fresh air among other things like cigarette smoke and other odors. That is why plants are such great air purifiers, especially Pothos, Philodendrons, Spider Plants and your plant the Mother-in-Law plants. Do a google on plant purifiers it is interesting when you have the time of course. Here is something else I do I play an album (I since had it converted to a CD) that I got back in the 70’s called Plant Music and I haven playing it ever since for about 2 to 3 hours a day ant they really seem to like it. No I am not nuts just done a lot of research and experimenting. I think I will post this to my thread as well. People will think I am nuts. i love it people at work think I am so who cares. Have a Great Day, Granna |
