RE: Granna's Thread
Granna, that sounds nice... I am terrible when it comes to plants. That's why when i do my landscaping i will stick to perennials and bulletproof trees (if there's such a thing..lol).

RE: Granna's Thread
Hello All,
I just got done watering some of my plants and that took 3 hours – my goodness were they were thirsty. I fed them with Miracle Grow fertilizer. The Pothos are doing fine and the yellow leaves at the base of the plants sure enough are gotten roots reaching into the soil to build a firmer foundation it has taken some time but it has been rewarding to see that reproduction take place. The philodendrons are slow growing suckers (they root slowly in water) but in time they will reward – do not give up hope with yours. I am looking forward to being able to take my outside plants outside to divide them and have some plants to give away. My aloes are doing GREAT - babies all over the place and the babies from last year will be sold in May. I will type more as time goes on. If anyone has additional info to add I would be grateful to learn from you or any suggestions on anything. I would be greatful. Until next time. Have a good tomorrow. Have a Great Day, Granna |

RE: Granna's Thread
Hello to all my plant buddies,
I just got done cleaning out my cabinet of glass vases - I have been using plastic vases and I know plastic vases maintain all sort of things but I bleach the vases every time and after a year of using them I toss them. I go to the Dollar Store and get cheap vases and I don’t need to worry about dropping them and they break – as this has happened in the past in the back yard. I have just got done planting 10 plants to be sold in May, it was fun to see the roots they all have put out - holy cow what a root system they put out and the roots are so thick. Until next time. Have a Great Day, Granna |

RE: Granna's Thread
Hi to all!
I got home from work tonight rested for an hour - I divided and repotted my variegated snake plant (mother-in-law-tongue plant) - I got 3 plants out of the 1 plant I had. Two of the shouts broke off - so - I did the cutting of the of the shoots and stuck the cuttings in a pot as said on the internet - they say the variegated snake plants (mother-in-law-tongue plant) does not root – we will see what happens in about 6 months to a year (I labeled the cuttings w/ the dates) – it is an experiment in progress – I love to do experiments - some work out and some don’t. After repotting the plants and watering the plants the plants were drooping over so I tied them loosely with some bias tape (it is a cloth tape purchased at a fabric store or Walmart in the sewing area and it is gentle to the plant) I had in my sewing room do not tie to tightly but loosely but stable and then I pressed the dirt around the plants to keep them upright – I will keep the bias tape on the plants for about 6 months or so until the roots get established in their pots. This was my adventure for the evening. Have a Great Day, Granna |

RE: Granna's Thread
The plant sale went well I sold ½ of the plants and I have ½ of the plants left and will sell the rest of the plants when there is a day off – in my near future probably next month. Hopefully. How is everyone doing?
Here in Midland, TX. we had a terrible hail storm over the weekend and the hail beat the daylights out of my tomatoes – I am hoping they survive my husband said they will be OK I am believing him and going with that. All of the other outside plants got pelted really well and I am thinking they will be OK. Our garden the onions were hit pretty hard but the rest of the plants were protected by the fence we have. I have a few asparagus fern growing from the seed that were planted – it will take a year to see how they do. Until later. Have a Great Day, Granna |

The tomatoe plants are doing great when I got home from Dallas the first thing I did was feed them and water them as well as all of the other plants I even had a tomatoe to eat off of one of the plants yum it was good. I have decided to do another experiment with potatoes – I am taking a potatoe and cutting it up into pieces - the sections that have eyes that are sprouting – from the potatoes and cutting them in sections and planting them in a very large pot to see if I get potatoes as a harvest – we will see what happens. I love doing experiments we never know what will happen. To be honest I have fed the plants every 3 days to help them regain their strength after the hail storm we had here and the food seems to be giving the plants the energy they need to recuperate.
I will keep you informed as to what has been going on. Have a Great Day, Granna |

RE: Granna's Thread
Hello to all of you!
The weather has been all rain for a week and a half so far and in West Texas that is a rarity we are happy to have the rain – it will help in filling up our water well for the drier weather that is coming later on in the year for watering the yard and all of the outside plants. The rain water is good for the plants and the yard, our yard is so green and it is growing like CRAZY. A couple of posts afore hand I had mentioned I planted 25 Asparagus Fern plants (5/10) from seed – we now have 18 pots w/ foliage growing, I am thinking I will make 3 pots by dividing the plants equally for each pot – the potting soil will be made of ½ Miracle Grow Moisture Control soil and ½ play sand purchased at Home Depot or Lowe’s – with a few coffee filters in the bottom of the pots – I will go to the Dollar Tree store an purchase 3 pots for a dollar each (I really like the Dollar Tree stores). The tomato plants are doing very well after the hale storm my husband said they would be ok and he was RIGHT the plants are 5 feet tall w/ lots of blooms and little tomatoes on the vines – yeah! Until next time have a happy and safe 4th of July. Have a Great Day, Granna |

RE: Granna's Thread
HOLY COW!!!!!!!
I got very angry last week – I found a mealy bug infection on 8 of my plants – how the heck did this happen – a plant brought in the house from a noted nursery – thank God for the internet – I found out what it was for the cure for this infection - I took the infected plants outside and sprayed them with a mixture of - Dawn dishwashing liquid - rubbing alcohol - bottled water in a spray bottle and sprayed the living daylights out of them dripping like crazy - 4 TIMES leaving them outside the whole time– I will eventually in a week repot the plants after washing each plant in an antibacterial soap and rinsing well bare root and all - and potting in newly purchased pots (washed really well) and hope for the best - I will bleach the contaminated pots.. We will see what happens – I Love experiments. Have a Great Day, Granna |
