Rainbow Granna's Thread
I have been dealing w/ houseplants for 30 years and I am no expert just an avid lover of houseplants. I have an Asparagus Fern that is 5 years old and it is huge I have gotten enough berries off of the mother plant to start 2 other plants that are 2 and 3 years old. I pick the berries after they turn red off of the mother plant and dry them out and then plant them and wait for the sprouts to emerge. I start the plants and when old enough I give them away. It is fun to have people tell how the plants are doing. Big Grin

Have a Great Day,
Granna

Welcome! I am a lover of houseplants...unfortunately, haven't been too good with them. I've found a lot of great information from the articles on the main site...and I look forward to hearing more of what you know about plants from your experience!

RE: Granna's Thread
I do not like high maintenance plants I feel like they are best left to the professionals. I like the plants that are easy and rewarding the kind most people want to deal with like Philodendrons the smaller of the plants for the house, Pothos, Spider Plants, Snake Plants, Aloes, Jades these are easy plants and will not defeat a beginner or someone that just wants a simple plant to bring them a sense of accomplishment.

Have a Great Day,
Granna

Don't let Granna fool ya she has a super Green Thumb! She has an amazing gift with plants and loves to share the fruits of her labor. She has given my wife and I several plants that are very beautiful.

She is my mother-in-law so I have to say nice things about her! Smile

I have a jungle inside and outside of my house. I have brought all of my plants in for the winter and now my dining room is the plant room. Last year I trimmed all of my plants down and rooted them and picked a day to have a plant sale, the day I choose happen to be Mothers Day and I sold every plant plus some in my house I was really tired of looking at. I have many plants getting rooted and potted and ready to say BYE BYE in May of 2010. Makes for nice pocket change since I am presently unemployed. I made $150.00 in 1 day in 3 1/2 hrs. I even had people coming to my front door a few days later asking if I had more. I thought that was to cool.
I went to the grocery store and got those containers they put potatoe salad in and used those for the pot, they are cheap and I also used coffee filters for the bottom instead of gravel another cheap way to go. I always use 1/2 potting soil (Miracle Grow) and 1/2 play sand they need good drainage.

For the above post I did not mentioned that I take an ice pick and heat it up and poke holes in the bottoms of the containers for proper drainage. Sorry for the later entry this was an after thought.
We need spell check for these posts. LOL!

RE: Granna's Thread
Thanks for all that, Granna! My mother uses coffee filters too, and you're right about the potato salad containers...they are cheap and useful as pots. Awesome about the money you made too...and doing something you love. Hope it continues to go well!
